Marie Saavedra, a long-time reporter for WFAA-TV shared on Facebook that she was making a move. Sunday, October 11, was her last day on air!
Marie joined the team at our Dallas/Fort Worth ABC affiliate in August 2013 after graduating from the University of Missouri – Columbia. She started her career in Springfield, Missouri, before moving to Phoenix, Arizona. In her departing post, she says that she has the chance to work much closer to home, the Chicago area.
At the time of this post, Marie’s bio is still live on the station website. When asked, What are your interests, she shared this:
Professionally, my interest is in telling a story that will make the viewer feel. That runs the gamut from hard news to uplifting stories. I was in downtown Dallas the night that 5 officers were killed in an ambush, and looking back, I value being there and bringing information to a community looking for answers and understanding. I also love the chance to meet a character or a special family and share what makes them someone you should know while putting a smile on your face. Personally, my interests include a good laugh, great meals, and travel! I love seeing Broadway shows when touring companies stop in North Texas, and an afternoon museum-hopping in Fort Worth is always a treat.
DEAR NORTH TEXAS: We all know news happens fast and sometimes, so does change! Today is my last day on air for WFAA….

Marie has shared hundreds of stories on everything from dating scams and COVID-19, feel-good stories of thanks as a Walmart customer thanked the EMS folks who saved him to the deaths of five Dallas area police officers during a mass shooting.
We wish Marie well as she makes her move, knowing she will be a credit to the organization that she joins.
